Silima FAQs

What is the best bra to wear after a mastectomy?
Any of our Mastectomy Bra's can be worn post-surgery. Our bras are wire free and designed with comfort in mind. However, typically our bras are fitted and worn by clients at least 6-weeks post-surgery, as our bras are primarily used to support our prosthetic breast form range. We do not currently have any bras exclusively designed for post-surgery mastectomy patients, as our focus is primarily with post-recovery patients.

What is the best bra to wear after a breast augmentation or reconstruction?
Our Cara Bra is a wire-free compression bra suitable for recovery from reconstruction surgery. It is moulded and double layered for comfort, promoting even compression with adjustable straps. The elastic under-band stabilises the freshly operated breast tissue and controlled compression assists with lymph drainage, reshaping of the breasts and supports the healing process. Your breast care nurse will be able to guide you towards the best sizing for you. This bra is to be worn for at least 6 weeks following surgery.

What is your most comfortable bra?
While all of our wire-free Mastectomy Bras are designed to be soft and comfortable, our Anna Bra is popular for it's comfort and support. With moulded foam cups and side reinforcements for extra support, Anna is the perfect choice for a comfortable, supportive bra following your mastectomy.

How is a mastectomy bra different from any other type of bra?
The main different between our Mastectomy Bras and other bras you’d find in a shopping centre is that all of our bra’s are fitted with hidden pockets that can fit our prosthetic Breast Forms into one or both cups. As well as this, all of our Mastectomy Bras are wire-free and are designed to provide maximum comfort and support.

Can you just wear a padded bra after a mastectomy?
Many women who have had mastectomies or other forms of breast surgery consider a range of options for their specific situation. For women who've had a lumpectomy or a partial mastectomy, a regular padded bra can certainly be an option. If you’ve had a full mastectomy and do not wish to “go flat,” it is recommended to wear a pocketed Mastectomy Bra that is fitted to you along with a Breast Form that is also properly fitted.

Is Silima only for breast cancer patients or can anyone buy Silima products?
While our company’s main focus helping women who’ve had mastectomies, anyone is welcome to purchase Silima products. Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community looking to express yourself, recovering from a breast augmentation, or you are simply someone who is looking for a comfortable, wire-free bra, Silima welcomes you.
